The Kepri name and logo
The name Kepri is inspired by the Ancient Egyptian scarab god “Khepri,” the deity of rebirth and sunrise. The scarab also reflects our focus on biodiversity – beetles are the most diverse group of animals on Earth, with nearly 400,000 known species
Our global team
Our global, multicultural team brings together experts and advisors in sustainability, nature conservation, strategy, innovation and tech/AI, and sustainable travel.
Our story and mission
Our mission is to scale sustainability and nature-positive solutions, champion impact-driven initiatives, and reconnect people with nature through innovation and travel.
Kepri’s journey began over 20 years ago when founder Karim Haggar and his childhood friend launched a sustainable travel business in Canada, driven by a passion for wilderness exploration and cultural exchange. What started as adventure expeditions for Canadian travelers evolved into a positive impact travel model, one that recognized the power of direct experience to transform how people relate to both nature and communities around the world.
Over the years, the business pivoted to focus on educational and corporate expeditions, partnering with pioneering institutions and organizations across North America to deliver immersive learning experiences in some of the world’s most remote biodiverse environments. These partnerships deepened our understanding of how meaningful encounters with nature and culture can inspire conservation action and drive systemic change.
Kepri then exited the tour operating business and refocused on strategic sustainability and nature conservation advisory, working with private and public sector clients across multiple sectors on impact projects and nature-positive solutions. This shift allowed us to work at a systems level – shaping policy, guiding investment, and building partnerships that drive large-scale environmental outcomes.
Kepri recently established its headquarters in Dubai, positioning us at the crossroads of global environmental dialogue. As a bridge between East and West, and between the global North and South, the Middle East is emerging as an important player in environmental action, having hosted major UN COP events and the IUCN World Conservation Congress. This strategic location enables us to connect diverse stakeholders and perspectives in addressing our planet’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Today Kepri provides nature-centered advisory services and curates immersive travel experiences that promote conservation, sustainability, and a deeper connection with the natural world. Every project we undertake strengthens the vital connection between people and nature – because we protect what we love, and we love what we experience firsthand.
The Kepri name and logo
Kepri is named for Khepri, the Ancient Egyptian scarab beetle god of rebirth and sunrise. The Egyptians observed how scarab beetles push dung balls containing their eggs across the ground, and imagined Khepri pushing the newly born sun across the sky each morning – a symbol of renewal and new beginnings.
The scarab also embodies extraordinary adaptation. In desert environments, these remarkable beetles harvest water from thin air, standing on their heads as fog condenses on their bodies and drips into their mouths. And as the most diverse animal group on Earth – with over 400,000 species – beetles represent nature’s boundless creativity and resilience.
For Kepri, the scarab symbolizes transformation, endurance, and the incredible diversity of life. Just as nature constantly renews itself, we believe in the power of meaningful encounters with the natural world to transform how we live and what we protect.
Team and founder
Our multicultural team and network spans continents, bringing together experts and practitioners in sustainability strategy, conservation, technology, and sustainable travel. Kepri is also supported by a global panel of leading advisors including tech entrepreneurs, prominent conservationists, and experts in ecotourism.
Founder Karim Haggar started Kepri in 2004 with his childhood friend, and over the years organized expeditions in over 30 countries across five continents, creating transformative experiences that changed the lives of thousands of travelers. Today, through Kepri’s strategic advisory work, Karim advises governments, corporations, and international organizations on biodiversity and nature-positive solutions, serving as Senior Advisor at Roland Berger leading global work on conservation and ecotourism, and as advisor to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), where he recently served as Ambassador for the World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi.
Karim holds a PhD in Strategy and Innovation Management and has lectured on entrepreneurship at McGill University. He is also an active angel investor focused on social enterprises and cleantech startups, mentoring young impact entrepreneurs through accelerators, board memberships, and pro bono engagements. He combines the analytical rigor of a strategy consultant with the entrepreneurial mindset of a founder and the firsthand experience of an explorer who has witnessed the world’s most fragile ecosystems – from the Amazon and Himalayas to Socotra’s ancient forests, to the Nile and the Serengeti. He writes extensively on sustainability and the human-nature connection, speaks at global environmental forums including UN COP conferences, and shares insights from family expeditions with his two sons.
His explorations, combined with his family travels, now span over 50 countries. Through the Kepri nature travel blog, Karim shares these travel stories, weaving together personal experiences with reflections on critical nature-related themes.
Kepri’s growing team works passionately and tirelessly to reconnect people with nature, advance conservation outcomes, and build travel experiences that create lasting positive impact for both travelers and the planet.
